WEEKEND ANIMAL CARE ASSISTANT

We are looking for a person/s to join our friendly team of staff & volunteers caring for our animals at DBARC Saturday and/or Sunday. This could be for somebody to work both days, or for two people for one day each.

The hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm with an hour lunch break.

Candidates must have a genuine and sincere interest in providing care and comfort to the various species of animals requiring care and comfort at DBARC.  Although previous experience in animal welfare work would be an advantage, it is not a pre-requisite for the post.

The Rescue is staffed by a small group of dedicated people who provide a very high standard of care to those animals requiring the Charity’s help and assistance.  Staff harmony is an important factor in providing an appropriate environment for our animals, which are often frightened or timid and the applicant must be capable of carrying out allotted duties in a manner which ensures an empathic and co-operative relationship with other members of the Rescue’s staff.

The position will involve frequent contact with the general public, upon whom the Charity depends for its resources.   The applicant will therefore be expected to present a dignified, sympathetic and articulate profile to all persons visiting the rescue centre.   Providing care and comfort to distressed animals is an activity, which, on occasions, can generate pronounced emotional reactions from both staff and the general public.  The ideal candidate will therefore be capable of maintaining a diplomatic and tactful manner and a sufficiently objective view of the any circumstances to ensure that the genuine requirements of the relevant animal take priority.

Basic computer knowledge will be necessary to work with the centre’s database.
